Mr. Meri laid a solid foundation for today's NAO, heading it during the difficult times when the Estonian state was being rebuilt. His contribution to the development of the NAO’s institutional capacity in accordance with international best practices cannot be overestimated.

During his service, the NAO became a member of INTOSAI and EUROSAI. From 1996 until the end of his term, Mr. Meri was a member of the EUROSAI Governing Board. He also helped establish the framework of cooperation between the SAIs of the Baltic and Nordic countries.

Hindrek-Peeter Meri will remain in the memories of his colleagues and friends as a persistent professional and a caring person whose natural dignity created balance in and around him.
